Having learned how to be in sync with his feet and hands in the weaving of Kente through coordination and attention to detail, Godwin Sefah was scampering down the right wing for Samartex on his debut against Raja Casablanca in the CAF Champions League on Sunday.
Sefah, a native of Bonwire – a town in Ghana, located in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipal district within the Ashanti Region always dreamt of playing football at the highest level.
When defending champions of the Ghana Premier, Samartex, came calling, the 15-year-old who dreams of playing for Manchester City knew he was headed in the right direction.
“I want to move forward, I don’t want to remain at Samartex forever. I see this as the first step God is using to open other doors, but I will finish in Europe by the help of God. I want to play for Manchester City,” he told Joy Sports.
Despite going through numerous adversities in his budding career, which includes the loss of both parents at a tender age, Sefah has been unperturbed and has kicked on from his numerous setbacks with the unwavering support of his elder sister.
“Class four, class five, my mum died. Class five, six, my dad died. I was left with my sister. It’s been the kente, together with my sister’s support, which has kept me. As for my sister, she deserves all the praise. She’s catered for me till this point”
Samartex signed the 15-year-old from Division Two side City Academy and handed him his debut in the top flight against Dreams FC in their season opener at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Godwin Sefah impressed on his debut and was strongly in contention for a starting berth against Raja Casablanca in the second round of Samartex’s CAF Champions League.
Despite a late cameo against Raja, the memories of his maiden CAF appearance will linger on.
“I felt excited because from the second division to the CAF Champions League, I never dreamt of such a possibility. I felt very happy,” he told the club’s media.
“The atmosphere was charged and the feeling was good. If you take a look at the stadium, the fans were expectant of a result and everyone was praying we get the win. When I went on, I planned to give it my all so we could nick the win, but God does what He wills and we could only come away with a draw,” Godwin Sefah added.
Samartex managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Raja Casablanca, leaving the second leg, which takes place on Saturday, on a knife edge.
However, the prodigy has assured the Samreboi faithful that he will do his uttermost best to help the team secure a win.
“I’ll tell all Samartex fans and my loved ones that, if I’m given the opportunity and I come into the game, I would want to score a goal for Samartex lovers and all my fans,” he told the club’s media.
Sefah’s diminutive stature, coupled with his sharpness and directness makes him a handful for defenders.
Samartex will hope to leverage on Sefah’s attributes to beat Raja Casablanca, in order to progress to the group stages of the CAF Champions League for the first time.
