Ghana’s Black Satellites soar to U-20 AFCON qualification

Black Satellites secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast in the ongoing WAFU Zone B Championship in Togo, securing their spot in the upcoming U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the process.

This triumph marks a significant milestone for Ghana’s young talents, who will now face the continent’s best in the prestigious U-20 AFCON tournament.

Despite a slow start to the tournament, where the Black Satellites secured a late 2-2 draw against Benin on the opening day, the 2021 U-20 AFCON champions managed to turn things around to secure qualification for the prestigious tournament after failing to qualify for the previous edition .

The Black Satellites demonstrated resilience and determination, overcoming a spirited Ivorian side to emerge victorious. The win showcases the team’s growth and cohesion under coach Desmond Ofei’s guidance.

Ghana dominated possession and created numerous goal-scoring opportunities, ultimately sealing the win with two well-crafted goals.

After qualifying for the AFCON, the Black Satellites would be hoping to secure their fifth title after last winning it in 2021.

The team would also seek to qualifier to Chile’s 2025 U-20 World Cup; a tournament Ghana has failed to participate in since 2015.

The Black Satellites have booked a place in the final of the WAFU Zone B after Sunday’s win and they would be facing either Nigeria or Niger to decide who walks home with the WAFU Zone B trophy; a trophy Ghana last won it in 2020.
