Black Stars and Rennes defender Alidu Seidu has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL) in Rennes’ Ligue 1 game on Sunday against Lille.
Seidu’s untimely injury occurred after the right back contested for an aerial duel in the first half of the said game.
The defender landed awkwardly after the incident, which happened after 11 minutes. Medics of Rennes rushed to the aid of the player, whom they spent close to five minutes treating before he hobbled off the pitch as Mikayil Faye took his place.
His injury comes on the heels of Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, another Ghanaian, sustaining an ACL injury as well.
After Rennes manager Jorge Sampaoli confirmed yesterday that further tests were going to be carried out following Rennes’ 1-0 loss, Seidu’s season has been brought to an abrupt end.
Seidu’s injury comes as a huge blow for Ghana, where he has been immense in recent games for the Black Stars.
Essentially, Alidu will play no part in Ghana’s 2025 World Cup qualifiers as the Black Stars look to right the wrongs of not qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
