Joyce Bawah Mogtari, a spokesperson of the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has described the Akufo-Addo government as a failure.
In her view, this is a government that celebrates mediocrity following the way and manner they received the report of the International Monetary Fund that indicated that the performance of the Ghanaian economy under the IMF programme was generally satisfactory.
It is recalled that following the IMF report, Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam said at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, December 3 that ” The economy is recovering strongly and faster, and structural reforms including those on Public Financial Management, Financial Sector, Revenue optimisation, expenditure rationalisation, social protection, and exchange rate management, have been firmly instituted.”
Reacting to comments like this on her X page, Bawah Mogtari said “They vowed never to go to the IMF and World Bank because they were better managers of the economy, today they are here writing long treatises telling you that the IMF says that the performance of the Ghanaian economy under the IMF programme is generally satisfactory. Since when did generally satisfactory, connote or even depict a good economy or healthy economy?
“To my mind and to most students of economics,a generally satisfactory performance means just that, in the absence of any meaningful change, luck lustre, uninspiring, and nothing else. This is a celebration of mediocrity and outright failure.
“This Akufo Addo/ Bawumia NPP government, is totally useless and has absolutely nothing to offer, don’t let them hoodwink you once again.”
