Media personality and actress, Nana Ama McBrown has addressed the long-standing accusations and rumours about having a hand in the death of actress Suzzy Williams.
Suzzy sadly died in September 2005 as a result of a car accident at the time she was at a peak in her career.
20 years ago, Suzzy was the face of the movie industry in Ghana and a sought-after actress. She featured in almost every movie and TV commercial.
She was talented and had the perfect looks for screens. During that period, Nana Ama McBrown was just beginning her movie career. She had just joined the industry looking forward to also break barriers.
Due to their talents and similar looks, Suzzy and McBrown were often paired in films.
However, following the death of Suzzy, rumours and allegations were rife that McBrown was responsible for the death of the actress merely to take over her shine.
According to McBrown, these accusations and rumours have lingered on for years as some still mkas such allegations.
In a recent discussion on Onua Showtime on Friday, January 25, 2025 McBrown clarified the rumuors and allegations and openly expressed how she feels by these accusations.
Although she admitted that Suzzy was a bigger star than she was at the time, there was nothing like competition between them as she has just joined the industry and was still finding her feet.
McBrown explained, ” We were often paired together on sets, including Abdul Salam Mumuni’s productions and shows like Tentacles. Suzzy was like a sister to me.
“At that time, Suzzy was hotter and more successful than me. I know I was also getting noticed, but Suzzy’s presence, especially in Accra, where the entertainment scene was so vibrant, was undeniable. She had the confidence that came with it.”
The actress recounted that she heard of Suzzy’s passing at the time she had just returned from a trip to Italy and was heading home.
“When I first heard of Suzzy’s death, I had just got back from Italy and arrived at the airport. I was in a Ford bus heading home and was at the front seat. I heard of her death while in the bus and that was when I found out. It was a shock.”
“When I heard the news, the first person I called was Kofi Adjorlolo to confirm if it was true. He told me it was, and even mentioned he was standing by her body at the mortuary. It wasn’t a serious injury, just some scratches on her breast. Not too long, I started hearing accusations that I had killed Suzzy,” she stated.
McBrown, clearly frustrated by the allegations, added, “If I’ve ever gone to any juju man, I challenge them to come forward and speak. At that time, we didn’t even know what competition was. Suzzy was Ewe, and I’m Asante. How could an Asante woman like me have done something like that to her?”
Reflecting on the emotional toll, McBrown admitted, “It hurts, and to this day, people still accuse me. But I leave it to God.”
