
The Ghana Police Service has announced the temporary closure of some roads in Accra to vehicular traffic for the 68th Independence Anniversary Celebration at the Jubilee House on Thursday, March 6.
According to a statement released on March 6, this forms part of the security arrangement by the police and the affected roads will be re-opened after the event.
The following roads will be closed temporarily;
- Liberation Road at Opeabia Intersection
- 37 Intersection towards the Central Business District (CBD)
- Independence Avenue at Ako-Adjei Bypass Jawaharlal Nehru Road at Switchback Road, and
- Presidential Drive around the Jubilee House will be blocked at John Hammond Road at TV 3 Junction and Kanda Link.
In addition some roads will be diverted and motorists have been urged to take note accordingly.
Motorists on the Liberation Road from Airport towards Accra on reaching Opeibea Traffic Intersection will be diverted onto the Alliance Francaise Road to link up the Obasanjo Highway or diverted onto the Airport Bypass to link up with the Giffard Road.
Similarly, motorists on Independence Avenue from Accra direction will be diverted at Ako Adjei Interchange onto the Ring Road Central towards Osu or towards Kawukudi.
Motorists from Club 10 and Kanda Post Office will be diverted at Kanda Link unto the Sunyani and Kade Avenue to link up with Kanda Highway.
Motorists are advised to note this arrangement and plan for alternative routes before embarking on their journeys. In furtherance to this, no vehicle would be allowed to park on the road.
Car Parks
No vehicle would be allowed to park at unauthorized places or drive through these road blockades. Security vehicles and vehicles carrying dignitaries would be allowed after thorough checks.
Traffic Police Officers would be at hand to direct and assist motorists to the appropriate car parks and diverted roads. Towing cars would be available to tow off any abandoned, disabled or wrongly parked vehicles at the event grounds.
Police advised motorists to take note of these arrangements and plan alternative routes before embarking on their journeys.
Police further urged the public especially motorists to cooperate with the Police to ensure effective traffic control and management before, during and after the programme.
