Saint Etienne forward Augustine Boakye has been sidelined for rest of the season with an ankle injury
Saint Etienne coach Eirik Horneland confirmed the Ghanaian sustained the injury in training and has undergone a successful surgery.
Augustine Boakye was earmarked as a potential candidate for Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
However, a dip in form in recent months saw Boakye’s chances fade into thin air.
Despite this, the Black Stars eased their way to 5-0 and 3-0 victories against Chad and Madagascar respectively.
Ahead of Saint Etienne’s match against Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint Germain (PSG), coach of the side, Eirik Horneland, confirmed Boakye’s absence.
“He had ankle surgery during this break,” the Norwegian said.
Boakye has been unable to add up to his impressive form at the start of the year, where he netted three times in January.
Since scoring against Nantes on January 19, the 24-year-old is yet to find the back of the net in six games.
Meanwhile, his injury adds to long term Ghanaian casualties, including Nathaniel Adjei, Alidu Seidu, and Fatawu Issahaku.
Saint Etienne are currently in the drop zone, striving to preserve their Ligue 1 status.
They are winless in their last nine games and face unbeaten PSG on Saturday.
Boakye will be hoping his team can do just about enough in his absence to maintain their league status.
