The Koforidua High Court has dismissed election petition case challenging Frank Annoh-Dompreh as MP for the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Constituency after the December 2024 Parliamentary election.
The petition, which sought to invalidate his election as declared by the Electoral Commission, was struck out by the court on April 10, following a legal application filed by the Director of Legal Affairs of the New Patriotic Party, Gary Nimako Marfo Esq.
They argue that infractions at certain polling stations impacted the chances of the NDC candidate, Selorm Philibert Fummey Amenorphe.
Presiding judge, His Lordship Krofa Addae, ruled in favour of the application to dismiss the case, thereby affirming the legitimacy of Mr Annoh- Dompreh’s election.
A cost of GHC 25,000 has been placed on the petitioner as the court found no merit in the petitioner’s case.
The results for the Nsawam-Adoagyiri, as declared by the Electoral Commission are; Frank Annoh-Dompreh of the NPP as the winner with 29,640 votes, while NDC’s Selorm Phillibert Fummey had 29,433 votes.
The Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP Frank Annoh-Dompreh, who currently serves as the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, welcomed the court’s decision in his favour.
“I see it as a vindication of both my electoral victory and the confidence reposed in me by the electorate of Nsawam-Adoagyiri,” he said.
Meanwhile, the petitioners have declared their intent to file an appeal against the ruling.
