About 5,166 out of 7,866 applicants have been given admission into the Takoradi Technical University to pursue various programmes for the 2019/2020 academic year.
Vice-Chancellor of TTU, Professor John Frank Eshun, at the matriculation ceremony said the current enrollment, offered in non-Tertiary, HND, Bachelor of Technology and Master of Technology programme, is the largest ever by the school.
“Out of the 5,166 enrollment to read various programmes this academic year, 65 percent are male whilst 35 percent are female students. Admissions to TVET Programmes constitute 72 percent whilst other programmes take 28 percent,” Professor Eshun said.
“This is an indication that TTU is committed to operating within its mandate, and a clear indication that you will have a smooth progression of your career to the graduate level, all in one location,“ he added.
While Takoradi Technical University has become attractive, appealing to many seeking tertiary education in the couontry, the number of uncompleted lecture halls and inadequate hostels have become a worry to management with the increase in enrollment.
Professor Eshun, who said effort is been made to provide more infrastructure appealed to freshmen to cope with management in the meantime and urged students to take advantage of the opportunity to have a career.
“Your coming to TTU comes with a lot of expectations on your part, parents/guardians, colleagues, and lecturers. All of us have one thing in common and that is to see you succeed in your studies. Failure to do so will lead to disappointments and frustrations. I therefore urge you all to take your studies seriously to become critical thinkers in order to unearth your talents.”
“Management would like to appeal to you to bear with us as we try to find a solution to inadequate lecture halls and hostels accommodation. We are hoping that when the re-construction of the Oduro Block is finally completed, there would be enough lecture halls to cater for all students. I, therefore, entreat you to make good use of the limited resources available at your disposal to make your stay at TTU meaningful,” he noted.
Professor Eshun, however, said efforts are underway to improve infrastructure and logistics to absorb the expected increase in intake in the next academic year.
