Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Busara Africa, Taaka Awori and the Maame Ekua Gaisey, Managing partner of FiveSixFive, are encouraging organisations to critically assess their values and work to have those values imbibed in their staff to ensure organizational and personal growth.
Sharing their takes on the Effective Living Series with a focus on growing in the world of work; Taaka Awori said it is important for employers to develop a mindset of growth to be able to stay relevant in the future of work.
According to her, employees need to be intentional and conscious about their growth and take decisions that will help them develop the soft skills that are becoming highly essential for the future of work.
“People with the growth mindset are those who will thrive professionally in this new world where the skills keep changing. It is those who believe in the growth mindset that has the ability to constantly learn. The soft skills are highly necessary and to be able to learn them, one needs to have that growth mindset,” she said.
She further highlighted the need for professional coaches to provide guidance and support for employees to unleash their full potential.
“Often the soft skills require you to work on yourself. I think there is such an underestimating of the power of coaching to support you deal with some of the limitations that get in your way to thrive in this new world, to clarify for you what really matters and to unleash that potential,” she said.
Maame Ekua Gaisey expressed concern that while many organisations take a serious interest in their strategies, they do not pay proper attention to the organisation’s culture.
“You find out that the managers know about where the company is going, but the middle level or front ends have no clue. All they know is that there is a target to meet… If you could spend time and resources on strategy, but you do not work on the culture, you are set up to fail. You could be successful in the short term, but you need to work on the habits and culture to be able to achieve the goals,” she noted.
