Charterhouse Fires Back At Kwaw Kese

Organisers of the Ghana Music Awards have responded sharply to claims by rapper Kwaw Kese.

Kwaw Kese stirred debate after posting on X on March 16, 2026, likening the awards to the local dish “gob3,” suggesting that nominations appear suddenly without clear processes.

“Ghana Music Awards turn gob3. You just wake up one day and there’s a nominees party and you ask yourself how and when people got nominated,” he wrote.

But speaking on Hitz FM on March 18, 2026, Head of Public Events and Communications at Charterhouse Ghana, Robert Klah, pushed back, calling for more precise and constructive criticism.

“The meaning of whatever submissions depends on where it’s coming from. If you’re someone who’s an industry stakeholder and have been part of this scheme before, it’s usually a bit difficult to reconcile that statement with who you are,” he said.

Robert argued that sweeping criticisms often miss the mark, stressing that concerns should be clearly defined.

“Sometimes, the comments are too generic, and you’re wondering whether the person is speaking against the entire scheme or there’s a particular component that they wish to address. If there’s a particular issue, be specific and narrow it down,” he stated.

He added that differing viewpoints within the industry must be respected, noting that not every proposed solution aligns with the broader vision of the awards scheme.

“In certain cases, while something from your perspective may be the best solution, it doesn’t necessarily mean it is the best solution because we all see things differently,” he explained.

Klah also cautioned against public commentary that could damage industry brands, urging stakeholders to engage responsibly.

“There’s nothing wrong with engaging or trying to address it. We are all about brands, so imagine if we all sat here and spoke negatively about someone’s brand—it may have an impact,” he said.

Despite the criticism, he maintained that the Ghana Music Awards remains a vital platform for the industry.

“The Ghana Music Awards is not just a night of trophy presentation; it’s an entire ecosystem with huge economic value for artistes and the music industry,” he added.
