Ho, May 31, GNA - The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in the Volta Region has not recorded any case of forced or child marriage between January and April this year.
Statistics from the Commission indicate that there were also no reported cases of child labour, child trafficking and child abduction in the region within the period.
In 2016, girls from selected districts with support from the Department of Gender, declared war on early marriage following unconfirmed reports of the region leading in teenage pregnancy and child marriages.
In the past four months, a total of 218 child rights-related cases were reported with 139 being child non-maintenance.
The Regional capital, Ho, did not record any child rights complaints but for a case on child non-maintenance.
Akatsi North and South Districts had the highest number of cases-64, with 40 child non-maintenance cases.
Mr Israel Aklorbortu, Regional Director, Department of Children attributed the progress to regular education and sensitisation on rights of children.
Mr Christopher Lartey, Senior Programme Officer, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, at a Regional Child Protection Committee meeting in Ho said the country was doing well with a coordinated approach to protection of children with focus on prevention.
