Ga-Dangme Association of Columbus-Ohio assists school

Accra, March 8, GNA - The Ga-Dangme Association of Columbus, Ohio, US, has presented 60 dual desks to the Danchira Metropolitan Assembly (M/A) Basic School in the Ga-South Municipal Assembly.

Nene Tawiah Akrobettoe, Chief of the Association, presenting the gift, said, it was the members’ contribution to the development of the school.

He said it was the desire of the Association to support the less privileged in the society, so they raised some funds during the Homowo festival held in Ohio for the needy.  

Mr Akrobettoe advised the pupils to take their studies serious and work hard to become useful citizens for their families and the nation as a whole.

Miss Erica Ahinson, the headmistress of the school, thanked the Association for the kind gesture and said, the desks would go a long way to improve teaching and learning since some of the pupils sat on broken desks or pieces of wood and cement blocks.

She said the gesture had boosted the morale of both staff and students and called on the group to continuously come to the aid of the school.

She appealed to philanthropists, both individuals and organisations to help provide text books for the children.

Miss Ahinson advised parents to make their wards’ education their priority, and not to leave them to fend for themselves.

The headmistress was not happy with the lateness and absenteeism of some of the pupils, because they had to indulge in menial jobs to make money.
