Coaltar (E/R), June 27, GNA – Madam Florence Govina, the District Chief Executive for Ayensuano, has said the good works of the government has helped the Assembly to expand the School Feeding Programme.
“I can report that about eight schools have been added to the previous ten beneficiary schools in Ayensuano.
“This is really a big step to making sure that we get on board most of our rural schools in other to increase enrolment and the other benefits associated with the programme,” she said.
Madam Govina made the remark when she addressed the first ordinary meeting of the first session of the Ayensuano District Assembly at Coaltar in the Eastern Region.
She said the provision of school infrastructure was very key in the Assembly’s efforts at making education accessible to all no matter their location, adding that; “as such under my leadership as the DCE I pledge to tackle this with all seriousness.
“On Wednesday 6th June, 2018 I was joined by the Hon Regional Minister to commission two school buildings at Owusu Wawase and Amanase Aboabo. I was much relieved to see the excitement of the school kids, who before the construction had to walk from far away to Asuboi to access school,” she said.
Madam Govina said the District had made great strides in the area of school infrastructure and that currently, additional two kindergarten blocks were almost at completion level and that processes were fare advanced to awarding a construction of another kindergarten block project at Anum Apapam.
She said though this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) held for Junior High School students in the area was largely successful, she was disappointed with some absenteeism and pregnancy cases.
“This is clear for us to see that teenage pregnancy in the District is still a major issue and in this vein I call for all hands on deck, especially parents to take responsibility of the proper development of their young girls,” Madam Govina said.
She commended the Social Welfare Department for their efforts in the fight against teenage pregnancy in the District.
