Tema, July 24, GNA - Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari, Secretary to the Cabinet, has called on parents to invest in the education of their children.
She said investing in education is a lucrative venture and that every parent should ensure that they give their wards good education to secure their future.
Ambassador Debrah-Karikari made the call at the 47th Speech and Prize-Giving Day and Graduation ceremony of the Tema Parents Association School.
The event was held under the theme: ‘’Parents: Nurturing Capable and Transformational Leaders for the 21st Century and Beyond.
The Career Diplomat, who is also a member of the 1971 Year Group of the School, said the theme identified parents as the duty bearers for providing guidance, as the individuals responsible for nurturing or providing the care, protection and comfort we need in our growing stages.
Ambassador Debrah-Karikari said parents provide for our basic needs, our education and training and guide our spiritual journey by introducing us to our faith.
“It is the revered duty of parents to appreciate that the act of nurturing and the measures for correctional and discipline promotes the well-being of the child and helps the child to acquire wisdom and confidence, so that he or she can develop into a useful adult’’, she said.
Ambassador Debrah-Karikari commended the school for coming out with eminent people most of whom are occupying key positions in the country.
Mrs Esther Mensah, Headmistress of the school, said last year, the school established a creche to enable nursing mothers return to work with little worries and also offer the opportunity to mould the children from an early age.
She said the school presented 89 candidates last year and that over 70 per cent obtained aggregate six adding that “we are resolved to continue with the hard work academically to enable our children reach the apogee of the education ladder”.
Mrs Mensah said steps are being taken to improve on the infrastructure in the school to meet the growing needs of the institution.
The Headmistress commended the Old Students and the Parents-Teacher Associations for their immense contribution for making the school what it today and urged parents to pay their fees promptly.
Pupils, staff and non-teaching staff who excelled during the year were presented with awards.
