Nsakina (GAR), GNA – Nii Odartei III, the Chief of Nsakina, has offered a land for the construction of a Senior High School as his contribution towards the free education introduced by the government.
He said the Free SHS is a good policy which was affording every child to have secondary education and called on his fellow chiefs to contribute their quota towards its success by making land available for the government to provide educational structures to enroll more students.
Nii Odartei made the offer known in a speech during the Farmers Day and Awards ceremony at Nsakina in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
He said the free education would go a long way to prevent children of school going age from selling along the streets, indulging in dangerous drugs and alcoholism and other vices, which could ruin their lives.
He urged parents to enroll and invest in their children’s schooling for them to become knowledgeable adults to manage the country, saying “our children today are our cocoa farms in future and we need to do all that we could to support them in their education.”
Mr Clement Nii Lamptey Wilkinson in an interview with the Ghana News Agency expressed gratitude to the chief and his elders for the gesture adding that such complements by stakeholders were some of the support government needed to aid its efforts.
He gave the assurance that the Assembly would immediately put plans in place to start the project.
He lauded Nii Odartei for raising GHC 5,000 to purchase iron sheets to roof parts of the Methodist Primary School building at Nsakina.
Mr Wilkinson called on other chiefs in the municipality to emulate the example of the Nsakina Mantse and desist from chieftaincy disputes, to pave way for the area to develop.
