Kumasi, March. 08, GNA - The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi on Friday organized a free breast cancer screening and education for its female staff as part of activities marking this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations.
Mrs. Georgina Afua Sam, Director of Nursing Services at KATH, told the Ghana News Agency during the exercise that, it was very important to safeguard the health needs of women, who made tremendous contributions to national development.
She said the exercise was meant to motivate the female staff who formed about 64 per cent of the hospital’s workforce, whiles also recognizing their significant contribution to health care delivery at the facility.
The word wide theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is dubbed is “Think equal, build smart, Innovate for change”.
As part of the education session, the women were taken through how to properly examine their breast for visible and invisible signs, nature of the disease and the understanding that no herbal medicine had been proven to cure breast cancer.
Mrs. Sam said early detection was the surest way to treat and cure the disease and urged all female staff to undertake regular check-ups to ensure longevity.
She advised the female staff to be professional in the discharge of their duties to enable KATH achieve its aim of providing excellent health care to the people.
