Kumasi, March 30, GNA - Prempeh College in Kumasi, emerged winners, of a two-day Super Zonal competition, in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
In all 46 senior high schools, in the Ashanti Region participated in the competition, which Prempeh College gathering 99 points to beat its close contestants, Opoku Ware School, which placed 2nd with 91 points while T.I Ahmadiyya School, the defending champions, pulled 72 points, to place third, at the end of the keen competition.
The event was jointly put together by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and Accra Brewery Limited (ABL) manufacturers of Beta Malt, a nourishing malt beverage.
Speaking to the media after the contest, Mr. Emmanuel Domenyah, Director of Physical Education Unit, Ghana Education Service (GES), said such competitions were organized to hunt for and unleash talents in the youth.
He commended the ABL for providing the sponsorship and was upbeat that the young talents would excel beyond the region and nation as well.
Mrs. Portia Offei Asare, Beta Malt Brands Manager, said the company would extend such activities to other regions in the country, adding that, “these were in pursuit of our goal to empower young sports girls and boys”.
The company would award the overall best male and female athletes tertiary scholarship worth GH¢30,000.00 in the national sports festival which is scheduled for August this year, in Novrongo.
