Sunyani, Nov. 10, GNA - The Methodist Church Ghana on Sunday inducted five Diocesan Lay Chairmen to serve their respective Dioceses of the Church in the Northern sector of the country.
They are Brothers Kwabena Asante-Krobea of the Kumasi Diocese, Michael Agyemang, Sunyani Diocese, and Charles Amponsah Arthur, Effiduase Diocese.
The rest are Sister Dr. Millicent Captain-Esoah, Tamale Diocese and Sister Beatrice Hammond, Obuasi Diocese.
Most Reverend Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana presenting Bibles and Methodist Constitutions to the newly-inducted Lay Chairmen at a service held at the Wesley Cathedral in Sunyani admonished them to do nothing that would mislead the "flock" of Jesus Christ and adulterate the doctrines of the Church and the Holy Bible.
Most Rev. Dr. Boafo told them their induction had provided the greatest privilege and opportunity to fulfil the will of God in the lives of the people and Ministry.
In a sermon, Most Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante, a former Presiding Bishop of the Church, reminded the lay Chairmen on the need to demonstrate true sense of humility.
He observed that the Church in Africa was bedevilled with lack of quality leadership, hence, the need for the clergy to be committed and submissive to learn and develop themselves.
Most Rev. Prof Asante, who is the Chairman of the National Peace Council, advised the leadership of the Church to foster unity, translate dreams and visions into realities to make impact and advance the growth and sustainable development of the Church.
As an agents of change and transformation, he underlined the need for church leaders to understand the basics and rudiments so as to get themselves abreast with the principles of Methodism.
Most Rev. Prof Asante tasked the newly-inducted Lay Chairmen and all Lay Chairmen of the Church to serve in singleness of heart and purpose to build the Church of God.
"Godly leadership is not about promotion, but because God has bestowed special gifts and talents in you to serve His people. So do not bring the worldly concept of leadership in to the Methodist Church", he advised them.
"A servant leader creates servant followers", Most Rev. Prof. Asante said, and entreated the clergy to make humility remain their watchword and trademark to impact God's people.
