Kadewaso (E/R), Dec. 18, GNA - Madam Habiba Ibrahim, the Best Female Farmer in the Atiwa East District has appealed to government to provide rice farmers with combine harvesters to alleviate the stress they go through in harvesting their rice.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kadewaso, where the district's 35th Farmers Day celebration was observed, she appealed to the District Assembly to rehabilitate the bad roads in the district to complement the government's agriculture intervention programmes.
The best farmer said although farming inputs and active Extension Agents were on hand, rice farmers in the district still relied on manual labour to thrash the harvested rice.
Ms Ibrahim said rice farmers also needed ready market for their produce and therefore called on the government to provide a warehouse for farmers in the district to store excess harvest.
The middle age woman who cultivates cocoa, plantain, cassava, rice, coconut, and vegetables was presented with a tricycle, bags of fertilizer, knapsack sprayer, weedicide, cutlasses, wellington boots and other items to support her farming activities farming.
