President Akufo Addo has rubbished claims Ghana football is retrogressing following the Black Stars B triumph in the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations on home soil.
The Ghanaian leader insists football in the West African nation is very much alive after the home-based stars clinch the regional crown in a grand style in Cape Coast over the weekend.
The Black Stars B thumped rivals Nigeria 4-1 to retain the WAFU Cup of Nations crown.
And President Akufo Addo says the recent success of the national team makes practical nonsense of the continuous claims of the decline of the local league.
“A few days ago before the results of you achievement, I was having an argument with somebody who was telling me that Ghanaian football was on a decline and I said really.., how?
“The country that produced player such as James Adjei, Baba Yara, Osei Kofii, Abedi Pele, Tony Yeboah and Asamoah Gyan..., that country has run out of great footballers?, that cannot be,” President Akufo Addo stated.
The President has rewarded the victorious team with $100,000 for the feat chalked.
