AFC Leopards coach Rodolfo Zapata has taken a thinly disguised potshot at Ghanaian duo Gilbert Fiamenyo and Eric Bekoe following their disappointed spell at the club.
Fiamenyo joined the Kenyan giants in 2017 as a free agent after Hearts of Oak failed to extend his contract.
The burly forward netted five goals in 14 games but was hampered by a series of niggling injuries, leading to his release the following season.
Meanwhile the Kenyan side terminated Bekoe’s contract by mutual consent in April this year. The former Kotoko striker was left frustrated after failing to break into the first team in 26 months.
According to the Argentine trainer, the club’s policy on signing foreign players needs a new direction.
Rodolfo insists he will only sign a foreigner in future if he has ‘exceptional talent’ and not just for the sake of it.
“When you go for a foreigner it means you are going for an exceptional talent, someone, who has something special that you cannot find at home. It is not good to bring someone, who will be competing with your players on the bench, that is great injustice to the team.
“If it happens that we will sign one, it is a person who will be exceptional, one who will help us hit our goals,” Zapata told Goal.
AFC Leopards is aiming at finishing in the top three this season, as well as clinching the Shield Cup.
