Ghanaian goalkeeper Razak Abalora has completed a move to Kazakhstani Premier League outfit FK Zhenis Astana after parting ways with Albanian side AF Elbasani, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm
The 28-year-old shot-stopper recently became a free agent following the early termination of his contract in Albania, where he had established himself as Elbasani’s first-choice goalkeeper during the 2024/25 season.
Abalora made 33 appearances across all competitions, conceding 30 goals and recording 11 clean sheets - a solid return for a newly-promoted side.
Despite his strong performances, the former WAFA SC graduate left the club amid internal disagreements.
However, Abalora has now opted for a fresh challenge in Kazakhstan with Zhenis, who are currently sitting in the 7th position in the top division.
The move offers the Black Stars goalkeeper another opportunity to revive his chances for a national team selection in a competitive environment.
Abalora previously featured for FC Sheriff Tiraspol and FC Petrocub Hincesti in Moldova, where he gained UEFA Champions League qualifying experience.
With four senior caps for Ghana, Abalora’s arrival is expected to bolster Zhenis' goalkeeping department as they target a strong finish in the Kazakhstani top flight.
His new adventure marks another chapter in his journeyman career, and Ghanaian fans will be eager to see how he fares in Central Asia.
