Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams says the Sports Fund, once approved, will resolve recurring funding challenges for Ghanaian sports and athletes nationwide.
Adams tabled the Sports Fund Bill in Parliament on Thursday, aiming to provide a sustainable financial framework for all sporting disciplines in the country.
He emphasized that the fund will support federations, associations, and athletes, ensuring that resources are available beyond just football.
“It’s quite clear that over the years, this house has had challenges to deal with many issues that affect funding in our sports generally. Funding is mostly secured to support just football, when indeed, when we talk about sports, it goes beyond football,” he said.
“When approved, we will not have the challenges of funding our sports, and sports will grow to bring about development and support other progressive activities that we do in this country,” Adams added.
The fund will draw on Parliamentary allocations, sports lotteries, sports betting levies, gate proceeds, athlete transfer fees, sponsorships, grants, and support from international federations.
