Liverpool manager Arne Slot is preparing for talks with Mohamed Salah as uncertainty deepens around the winger’s future following a turbulent week at Anfield.
Salah’s public claim that Liverpool had thrown him “under the bus” after the 3-3 draw with Leeds United led to his exclusion from the squad that beat Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Egyptian’s frustration followed his third straight Premier League match on the bench, with Slot adjusting his team while attempting to stop a worrying run of results.
That win in Milan may offer some stability, but Salah’s situation continues to overshadow Liverpool’s revival.
According to the Mirror, Slot is set to meet the forward amid growing external pressure, with Saudi Pro League sides Al-Hilal, Al-Qadisah and Neom, as well as MLS clubs San Diego and Chicago Fire, all monitoring developments.
Reports suggest discussions over a potential move are advancing, raising doubts about whether Salah will remain at Anfield beyond January.
Five days have passed since the interview that dominated headlines, yet neither player nor club has issued a further statement, aside from Salah’s omission from the travelling squad for the Inter fixture.
When asked whether the 31-year-old had played his final match for Liverpool, Slot offered no certainty, saying: “I have no clue, I cannot answer that question in this moment in time.”
Slot added another layer to the saga earlier this week when he indicated that Salah, not the manager, should initiate any apology.
“Everyone makes mistakes in life, but does the player think he’s made a mistake. The next question is, should the initiative come from him or me? That’s another question to answer.”
Liverpool’s next Premier League match against Brighton could determine whether reconciliation is still possible.
