Former Egypt forward, Ahmed Hossam Hussein, popularly known as Mido, has backed the Pharaohs to reach the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) if they manage to beat Ivory Coast.
The Pharaohs are set to face the Elephants on Saturday, January 10, in the quarter-finals of the ongoing tournament in Morocco.
Speaking on the upcoming clash, Mido urged the Egyptian technical team to vary their tactical approach, insisting that it is the only way they can overcome the defending champions.
“There must be a change in the way we play because they have great speed. If we play with one defensive midfielder, we will lose and it will be tactical suicide. Hossam Hassan must play with two defensive midfielders in order to protect our defense line,” the former Egypt star said on the Awdet El-Lebs programme on Al-Nahar channel.
Mido continued, “We must play with a number 9 striker and push forward Mostafa Mohamed, in addition to pushing forward Mohamed Salah and Marmoush. Mostafa Mohamed is the only player capable of converting crosses into goals, and if we beat the Ivory Coast national team, we will reach the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.”
The quarter-final clash between Egypt and Ivory Coast is scheduled to kick off at 7 pm on Saturday.
