The Africa Cup of Nations could be set for a major change, with reports suggesting the next edition of the tournament may be postponed until 2028 amid concerns over host readiness.
According to reports, the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football is increasingly worried about infrastructure development and the capacity of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to stage a 24-team tournament across 10 cities.
The three East African nations were awarded hosting rights for the next Africa Cup of Nations, but doubts have emerged over stadium upgrades, transport networks and overall logistical preparedness.
The proposal to potentially delay the tournament is expected to be discussed at a CAF Executive Committee meeting in Dar es Salaam on Friday.
In a related development, there are also reports that Morocco could withdraw from hosting the upcoming Women’s AFCON, adding further uncertainty to CAF’s competition calendar.
A final decision is yet to be confirmed, but the discussions could have significant implications for African football’s flagship tournament.
