Asante Kotoko have identified club legend Maxwell Konadu as the leading candidate to become the Porcupine Warriors' next substantive head coach, Sportsworldghana.com can confirm.
The Ghana Premier League giants have been without a permanent manager since Abdul Karim Zito resigned prior to last Sunday's Super Clash against arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak. Prince Owusu stepped in as interim head coach for that fixture, which Kotoko lost 1-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Following that defeat, management has moved swiftly to secure a replacement, with talks already opened with Konadu for what could be a swift appointment as the club seeks to reorganise for their remaining league fixtures.
Initial reports linked former Accra Hearts of Oak coach Samuel Boadu to the role, but our sources indicate that supporters and a section of club officials have quickly kicked against his appointment. The resistance stems from certain comments. Boadu previously made about Kotoko while in charge of their fiercest rivals.
Konadu, a club legend with deep ties to Kotoko, now stands as the leading candidate for the position. His potential appointment is expected to be well-received by the fanbase as the Porcupine Warriors look to stabilise and push for a strong finish to the season.
