Hearts of Oak will look to return to winning ways when they host Basake Holy Stars in a Ghana Premier League clash at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday.
Hearts head into the match aiming to secure their first victory since their impressive win over Asante Kotoko in Kumasi. Since that result, the Phobians have struggled for consistency, drawing and losing in subsequent matches, including a defeat to Bibiani Gold Stars last weekend.
Those dropped points have seen Hearts fall six points behind league leaders Medeama as the title race begins to intensify.
Despite the recent setback, Hearts will take confidence from their strong defensive record at home. They have kept six consecutive clean sheets at the Legon venue and will hope that discipline at the back can help them secure all three points on Sunday.
Basake Holy Stars, however, arrive in Accra in good form. They are on a two-match winning run after victories over Hearts of Lions and Swedru All Blacks. The visitors will hope that momentum can carry them to another positive result away from home.
Their main concern has been defensive stability on the road. Basake Holy Stars have conceded goals in each of their last five away matches and will need to tighten up if they are to contain a Hearts side eager to respond to last weekend’s defeat.
Recent meetings between the two sides suggest a closely contested encounter. In their last three meetings since September 2024, both teams have claimed one win each, while one match ended in a draw. Their most recent clash came in November 2025 when Hearts secured a 2â1 victory.
So far this season, Hearts have recorded ten wins, ten draws and four defeats from 24 matches. They have scored 17 goals and conceded just nine, giving them one of the strongest defensive records in the league.
Basake Holy Stars, meanwhile, have won nine, drawn five and lost ten of their 24 matches, scoring 21 goals while conceding 29.
Hearts currently sit third on the league table with 40 points, while Basake Holy Stars occupy eighth place with 32 points.
