Black Stars forward Andre Ayew has expressed relief after scoring his first goal for NAC Breda, ending a nine-game wait since joining the Dutch Eredivisie side as a free agent in January.
The 36-year-old found the net with a fine header in Breda's entertaining 3-3 draw with Feyenoord, a result that also saw fellow Ghanaian Kamal Sowah get on the scoresheet.
The goal comes at an opportune moment, with Ghana head coach Otto Addo set to announce his squad for upcoming friendly matches against Austria and Germany later this month.
Speaking to ESPN after the game, Ayew revealed he never doubted the goal would arrive.
"It's always important to score goals as an offensive player, but sometimes you have to be patient, calm. I knew it was going to come," he said.
"I was very focused on us winning games. I hope it is the first of many."
The experienced forward, who has earned over 100 caps for Ghana, acknowledged that his wait for a first goal tested his patience but not his belief.
"It was due, but with my experience, I'm calm enough to know how football works. Sooner or later, when you do what you have to do on the pitch, it will come."
Ayew's return to scoring form will be welcomed by Black Stars supporters as Ghana intensifies preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
