The inaugural edition of the U15 Girls Colts League has kicked off in Cape Coast, marking a new step in the development of youth football for girls in the Central Region.
The competition is an initiative of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) aimed at strengthening the grassroots structure of women’s football across the country. It forms part of the GFA’s broader women’s football strategy to identify and develop young female talents in all ten regions of Ghana.
The Central Region officially launched its competition on March 6, 2026, with eight clubs participating in the first edition. The teams involved are Windy Professionals Ladies FC, Kesewa Ladies, Mfantseman Royal Ladies, Ali Royals, Socrates Maidens, Mahuja Ladies, Kiismart Royal Ladies and Sea Lions FC.
To support the successful start of the league, the Central Regional Football Association provided jerseys and footballs to all participating clubs. The initiative is intended to create a suitable environment for young female footballers to develop their skills and compete within an organised structure.
Officials believe the league will play a key role in expanding opportunities for girls in football while helping to build a stronger foundation for the women’s game.
The U15 Girls Colts League is expected to serve as a pathway for young players to progress into higher levels of competition within Ghana’s women’s football structure,
