Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has backed the Ghana Football Association’s decision to include Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren in the Black Stars' technical setup for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Badu argued that the Swedish tactician’s impressive track record with the senior women’s national team makes him a valuable asset for the upcoming tournament in North America.
Agyemang-Badu emphasized that the reinforcement of the technical team is a strategic move to ensure the Black Stars are well-prepared for their Group L encounters against England, Croatia, and Panama.
"Since Kim Lars Björkegren took over as Black Queens head coach, he has done well, so joining the Black Stars for the World Cup will be good," he noted.
Björkegren, who recently led the Black Queens to a bronze medal at the 2024 WAFCON and secured qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, is one of five professionals added to assist head coach Otto Addo.
While he maintains his primary role with the Queens, his temporary transition to the men’s side is seen as a move to integrate successful tactical perspectives across the national teams.
