The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has welcomed the decision of the CAF Appeal Board following the controversial ruling on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
In a statement released on March 17, the Moroccan federation acknowledged the outcome and maintained that its appeal was based strictly on the enforcement of competition rules rather than the sporting outcome of the match.
“The FRMF wishes to reiterate that its actions were never intended to contest the sporting performance of the teams involved in this competition, but solely to request the application of the competition rules,” the statement said.
CAF’s Appeal Board overturned the original result of the final, declaring Senegal to have forfeited the match and awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory.
Reacting to the verdict, the FRMF emphasised its commitment to upholding regulations and ensuring consistency in African football competitions.
“The Federation reaffirms its commitment to the respect of regulations, the clarity of the competitive framework, and the stability of African competitions,” the statement added.
The federation also took the opportunity to commend all participating nations for their role in the tournament.
“Finally, it wishes to commend all the nations that participated in this edition of the AFCON, which served as a major moment for African football.”
The FRMF confirmed that a more detailed official statement will be issued following consultations with its governing bodies.
