VfB Stuttgart have received a timely boost ahead of their Europa League second leg against FC Porto, with German-Ghanaian winger Jamie Leweling cleared to be in the squad.
Head coach Sebastian Hoeneà gave the green light after downplaying the muscle issues that had caused concern in recent days.
Hoeneà described Leweling’s problems as a minor muscular “small thing” and “nothing dramatic”, easing fears of a longer absence. The 25-year-old is set to return to full training immediately, with the club keen to see how his body reacts to normal workload before the trip.
“He will go straight out onto the pitch and feel how it is afterwards,” Hoeneà explained when outlining the plan for Leweling’s comeback. Stuttgart’s final training session is scheduled for Wednesday evening, where the coaching staff will take a closer look.
It remains open whether the winger will start or come off the bench in Portugal. Stuttgart want to wait for the final reaction to training before making a decision. “We will weigh up after the activation what is possible. Start or substitution, we will then discuss that,” added HoeneÃ.
