Renewed ethnic clashes between Konkombas and Anufuls have claimed lives, injured and displaced several others in the two communities.
Speaking at the Paga Mosque in the Kassena-Nankana West District in the Upper East Region on a Ramadan tour, Dr. Bawumia urged the parties to the ethnic dispute to give peace a chance and work in synergy to eradicate poverty.
“Let me make an appeal to our brothers and sisters, mothers or fathers in Chereponi. There’s been some disturbances in Chereponi recently. We are really all one, whether you are Mamprusi, Komkonba, Dagomba, or Chokosi, we are one people. Our only enemy is poverty and let us fight poverty and not fight each other. Ghana is big enough for all of us and let us respect each other, let us work together and let us beat poverty together,” the Vice President appealed.
Use Ramadan to Pray for Ghana
Dr. Bawumia made a clarion call on all Muslims and Non-Muslims to use the holy month of Ramadan for peace, stability and accelerated development from Allah.
He stated that, a country can only achieve its development when there is absolute peace and stability.
Dr. Bawumia praised Ghana for being a peaceful country envied by many in the world and thus conscious efforts should be made to sustain it for development.
“We should not take our peace as a country for granted. We should not take our unity for granted. It is Allah who does everything and without Allah’s continuous guidance and blessings, we will not be where we are today.”
“…And we want to use this month to pray for peace and stability for this country. We are the envy of many countries in the world and this should not be taken for granted and we want to continue to live in peace and harmony.”
Dr. Bawumia also hinted that, government was committed to completing the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road indicating that, work will resume on the project latest by July 2019.
There has been one death and multiple arrests over recent clashes in the protracted conflict over land in the area.
