Reliable sources revealed that,the Sector Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah and the Director of Port, Peter Mc Manu, are pulling strings behind-the-scenes with MPS on job losses issues while creating revenue losses.
It has been alleged that the Sector Minister wants MPS to maintain less than one hundred out of the over three thousand workforce that would be affected and give redundancy.
Furthermore, numerous threats from the office of the Minister and the Director of Tema Port directed at the workers' leadership agitating on this concession agreement issues, letters have started flying, verbal threats of dismissal and the likes.
These, according to the source are all attempts to cow unionists to submission to enable him have his own lean way dealing with the issues.
Interestingly, the source revealed that, the MPS have started implementing the tennents of the contract by writing to the Director-General its intention to increase port tarrifs by 20 percent, also issuing its own entry pass to their facility to clients, directing other lines vessels that call at GPHA controlled terminals to relocate to their facility.
According to the source, "This and many more underground work and lobbying is being pursued by MPS already ahead of the official take off of business which the sector minister and the Director of Port are aware."
