Story from Isaac Akwetey-Okunor, Odumase
Thirty (30) traders in the Lower ManyaKrobo Municipal Assembly have given the leadership of the Municipality a two week ultimatum to allocate their shops to them, or else they would drag the Assembly to court, after taking GHc5000 each as goodwill.
It could be recalled that, the paper in its Monday November 7, 2016 edition carried a story under the headline: “Massive Corruption Hits Lower Manya Krobo Assembly”.
In the said publication, Ayerh Kofi Zhando, Assembly man for Odumase North Electoral Area, who is also a member of the Finance and Administration (F&A) Committee of the Assembly, described the level of corruption at the Assembly as unacceptable and unfortunate.
Madam Hellen Larko Teye, the leader of the traders, told The Chronicle that the leadership of the Assembly in 2012 asked prospective traders in the area to apply for a lockable store constructed by the Assembly at the Agormanya market.
They (victims) applied and were asked by the leadership of the Assembly to pay the aforementioned amount as goodwill, before the store would be allocated to them.
According to the hardworking traders, almost four years down the line, the stores have not been allocated to them and all efforts to collect their monies back have proved futile.
They have, therefore, called on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Fredrick Acolatse to immediately allocate the stores to them, or else they would drag the Assembly to court.
In a related development, Mr Ayerh Kofi Zhando is demanding immediate answers from the MCE on the contract awarded for the clearance of refuse dump.
According to the Assemblyman, in 2015, a contract was awarded for the clearance of refuse in the Municipality to the tune of GH¢74,500 without approval from the assembly and only one of such refuse dumps at Nuaso was cleared.
Mr Zhando wanted to know how many refuse dumps were supposed to have been cleared, the cost of clearing one and when will the remaining refuse dumps be cleared?
