A budding composer, Master Samuel Amissah (MPHIL), has released a choral piece aimed at drumming home the need for Ghanaians to preserve and maintain the peace our country is currently enjoying, ahead of the December 7 poll.
The piece, titled ‘Yenso Mu Dzen’, is also in audio form, which has gone viral on social media. It captures the voice of the composer singing and playing the piano as well.
Speaking to The Chronicle Choral Page, Master Samuel Amissah said that the piece reminds us of the fact that our nation, Ghana, is a peaceful country, and that the peace we enjoy is a gift from the Father of Light.
It is our responsibility to hold on tight onto the peace, and maintain and promote it in our country.
“With love, good disposition towards one another, and hard work, let us build our nation.”
Partisan deadlocks, politics of insults and vitriolic radio talk shows only devastate our nation. Our nation is a precious one, and we cannot afford to destroy it with politics. The main theme of the Yenso Mu Dzen peace song is adopted from an Akan folk tune, “Y[reb[hy[ }hen” by an ensemble called Mpe or Moses.
The song is written in the key of F major, but modulates to Ab (A flat) major, and ends in Bb (B flat) major. The piece is in ternary form (three-part form) – A B A1. Section A starts in F major with voice, accompanied by piano and strings. It is then followed with an interlude by flute, accompanied by piano.
The B section is in Ab major, followed by a brief modulation to Bb major, where the music is at its highest point.
Then comes in A1, where there is a repetition of the A section, but with a little variation. Here, there is effective use of the call and response technique.
The music is at its climax when the chorus (2-voice parts) is introduced for the first time, with guitar and percussions.
