The Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has duly ratified all certificates, diplomas and degrees the University awarded between September 1, 2013 to June 28, 2016.
The Council has also by extension ratified all staff promotions by the defunct Governing Council which required validation.
Accordingly, all convocation elections at the University which required the consent of the dissolved Governing Council had also been ratified by the newly constituted Council.
The Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Prof. Emmanuel Nicholas Abaka announced these while addressing the Second Section of 21st congregation of the UEW for the Distance Education Students from the Northern Sector at the Kumasi Campus of the university on Friday.
He said these measures (ratifications), which required a mandated Governing Council to do,
were in response to the directives given to the Council by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who on July 29, 2017 at the 2nd Section of the University’s Congregation at the Winneba Campus, directed the University Council to: “Urgently ensure that it puts in place measures to seal all loopholes of waste and the abuse of public funds”.
Prof. Abakah assured all Ghanaians that the Council was determined to achieve amicable settlement of all cases pending before the Winneba High Court soonest and ensure that all loopholes which encouraged waste and misuse of public funds in all the University’s allied campuses were completely sealed.
The Council chairman denied the rumour doing the rounds that the newly appointed staff in the University would lose their jobs and described it as absolutely “malicious and contemptible trumped-up story”.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Rev. Prof. A. Afful-Broni advised the graduants to carry themselves respectably and confidently as they stepped out into the world of work as the University believed in them as its worthy ambassadors.
Prof. Afful-Broni admonished them to desire to work for the common good of society rather than their individual parochial interests by willingly accepting postings to remotest areas where their services were most needed.
In all, a total of 10,587 students comprising 6,644 and 3,943 graduants from the Northern and Southern Sectors respectively in postgraduate, bachelor’s degrees and diploma categories graduated.
