The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has had a toll on the operations of the Ghana Post Company Limited, following the closure of the country’s main entry points, especially the airport.
Even though the COVID-19 pandemic has affected every economy globally, restrictions on the operations of international airlines, following the closure of the airport, had affected the activities of Ghana Post, Mr. Johnson Asante, Northern Sector Director of Ghana Post, has said.
He mentioned that even though the COVID-19 pandemic has drastically run down the company’s resources, he hoped the government would consider Ghana Post for support through fiscal interventions and assistance to companies.
Mr. Asante, who raised the concern in an interview with the paper, said however that with the long standing agreement the company has entered with DHL it is able to send some parcels outside, and that in spite of this current challenge, the company’s other businesses like the wholesale, local parcels and other services are still functional, and gave the assurance that the staff would not face any redundancy as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Asante disclosed that the company had been able to supply all its agencies in the country with personal protection equipment (PPE) to protect themselves and their customers.
He called on the workers of the company to adhere to the President’s instructions to combat the COVID-19 disease by wearing their nose masks both at home and at the company’s premises and in public.
Mr. Asante also appealed to Ghanaians to observe social distancing at all times, wash their hands with soap frequently, apply hand sanitiser when they had to, and wear their face masks.
