The people of Kyebi, hometown of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, are building up momentum to ensure their own gets another four-year term as the President of the Republic.
It was evident when President Akufo-Addo visited Kyebi to register to vote in the upcoming presidential poll, which he is contesting on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This reporter was on the grounds, and reports of the energies with which the young and old chanted the now famous tag; ‘4MoreForNana.’ It was as though there was a rally going on.
Some indigenes of Kyebi, in the Akyem Abuakwa Kingdom, expressed their joy for the massive work the Akufo-Addo-led government had done, a conviction he needs to be given another term to do more.
Though no one could give better and true reflection of the impact of this government on the Kyebi township in particular more than the residents, a tour through some parts of the town showed that, at least, the major roads had been constructed.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo also acknowledges that the people are better judges of his performance. He would not, but leave them to decide who should lead them for the next four years.
According to him, he asked Ghanaians to try him, which they have, and, on his part, he had done his best. He was aware Ghanaians are impressed with his work.
“They gave me the chance, so it is now for them to decide on the work I have done. I told them to try me, they have tried me, and they can discern better whether I have done a good job or not. On my part, I have done what I could do, and I know that the Ghanaian people are also impressed with the work I have done,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo was speaking to the media at Kyebi after registering to become a voter at the Rock of Ages registration centre at Kyebi Newtown in the Abuakwa South Constituency. His spouse also registered last Monday at the same centre.
The President was taken through the COVID-19 safety protocols, which included checking his temperature and washing his hands with soap under running water. He sanitised his hands and then presented his Ghana Card as proof of identification, before he was registered by the officials at the centre.
In his brief address to the media on the registration process, the President said the process was very simple.
He urged all eligible Ghanaians who had not registered yet to do so, considering that the exercise will soon come to an end.
“What would be sad is to sit in the house, and, then, other people take a decision for you. So, it’s better that everybody, who has not yet registered, should come out and register. It’s a simple process. It’s not complicated,” he said.
Further, President Akufo-Addo appealed to the Ghanaian electorate to hinge their decision on December 7 on the records of the various contestants vying for the Office of President of the Republic.
He recounted how, in the run-up to the 2016 elections, he urged the Ghanaian people to give him a chance to implement his agenda of transforming the circumstances of the Ghanaian people.
However, going into the 2020 elections, President Akufo-Addo is seeking to do more for the country, thus the tag ‘4 More To Do More,’ a phrase almost all parliamentary candidates of the NPP have associated themselves with.
