The Jaman North District Assembly in the Bono Region has distributed some items to People Living With Disability in the district to support them and also move them from begging on the streets.
This yearly programme by the assembly is funded from the 3% of the Assembly’s Common Fund.
The Assembly resolved not to give cash to any of the beneficiaries, but rather provide them with any items which can enable them establish lucrative businesses.
Among the items distributed to the 49 beneficiaries were 26 brand-new deep freezers, nine trading items made up three (50kg) bags of rice, 50 litres of oil, a box of key soap, a box of tomato puree, and some trading materials.
One beneficiary also received a brand-new shoe making machine, while another had a brand-new fufu pounding machine.
Another also received a brand-new printer, with one other person receiving an electric welding machine.
Again, seven people received two-and-a-half containers, and one person received 40 bags of charcoal, with another person also receiving 10 bags of maize.
The District Chief Executive for the area, Mr. Adane Ankomah, in his welcome speech, advised that the beneficiaries use the items judiciously, and that anyone caught in an attempt at selling any of the items would be sanctioned.
He appealed to the beneficiaries to retain the NPP government in the December general elections.
In attendance were the Deputy Bono Regional Minister (MP), Siaka Stevens, the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Ferkah Charles, and some members of the New Patriotic Party in the district.
