Residents of Pokrom, a farming community in the Akuapem South Municipality of the Eastern Region have started counting their gains, as Revealed Truth Properties Limited, designers and builders of green homes in Ghana, start a project in the area.
The Pokrom project is part of a review home plan that the company is embarking on nationwide to build urban communities in the outskirts of towns to address the housing deficit in the country, with the cost of a home starting as low as GHC65, 000.
The company has afforded the opportunities to prospective buyers to pay the full cost over a period of three to five years after 30 percent down payment.
According to the residents of the predominant farming community, the construction of the affordable housing project would not only make the area more visible for outsiders, but would provide jobs to the teeming unemployed youth.
They explained that majority of the youth who are unemployed would get the chance to work when the project starts and eventually lead to the boosting of economic activities in the area, as well as improving the social life of the people.
They hinted that the poor roads, electricity, potable drinking water among other basic social amenities would be improved when the project is completed, thereby improving their living standards.
Speaking to The Chronicle, Opanin Atta, an opinion leader of the area, mentioned that they are happy that management of Revealed Truth Properties have extended their operations to Pokrom and called on others to follow.
He explained that it would be difficult for most of the people in the area to construct a standard building apartment considering the fact that most of them are peasant farmers, amongst other economic challenges.
To this, “it is a great joy to have the company here since we can even stay in the buildings as we pay ‘small small’ until we finish paying the total cost,” he said. The paper gathered that a single room expandable is selling at GHC65, 000 for new homeowners.
