President Akufo-Addo acknowledging cheers from the crowd at Kyebi
In his quest to have four more years to lead Ghana, President Akufo-Addo wants Ghanaians to assess his first term performance using his records.
Confident Akufo-Addo has thrown this challenge because he says that he has not performed poorly in his first term.
According to him, his government had worked to benefit all aspects of national lives, following the policies rolled out, including One District One Factory.
“My government did not come to do lazy work. All aspects of our national life have benefitted from our policies, be they in health, roads, industrialisation, or agriculture. My government has worked for the benefit of all Ghanaians.”
“I have proven that I did not come to lie to Ghanaians, but to work for the progress and development of Ghana, and for all Ghanaians. I am asking the people of Ghana to assess me on the basis of my record…,” he said at Kyebi last Friday.
As such, the presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has asked Ghanaians to give him another term, if they were satisfied with his record, so he could consolidate the gains for the next four years.
He said: “…if they were satisfied with it (his records), they should give me an opportunity to do more for them by voting for me.”
The President told the gathering further: “I am a man of my word. I did not come to deceive anyone, and that is what has given me the courage to seek your support in the upcoming elections. This is what will strengthen me to consolidate the gains chalked in my first term.”
President Akufo-Addo was addressing the people of Kyebi, Eastern Region, his hometown, at a durbar held in his honour by the three Akyem groups – Abuakwa, Kotoku, Bosome.
Held at the forecourt of the Okyenhene’s palace, Kyebi, the durbar was to welcome the President into the Eastern Region for his tour.
From about a kilometre or more away from the venue, President Akufo-Addo’s convoy had to move at the speed of a tortoise as people had massed up on the streets to welcome him and lead him to the durbar grounds.
This paper reported sometime back that Kyebi was gearing up for the second term of the son of the land. The report followed the show of love to the President when he went to register as a voter during the registration exercise.
It appears the energy is higher than what was witnessed during the registration, a signal the people of Kyebi would want to continue to hold the bragging rights as the hometown of a sitting president for another four years.
In his remarks at the durbar, the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori-Panin, canvassed for another term for President Akufo-Addo.
The Okyenhene said Okyeman was solidly united behind President Akufo-Addo in his bid to win the December 2020 general elections.
“…It is said that by their fruits you shall know them. If his policies are bearing fruit, we, in Okyeman, say Nana toaso,” he remarked.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori-Panin cited some of the policies the Akufo-Addo-led government had introduced, which, he said, were benefitting Ghanaians.
To residents of Okyeman, the Okyenhene said: “If you are from Okyeman or a Ghanaian, and your child is a beneficiary of Free SHS and all the other policies of government, and you believe there is a new wind of development blowing, and you don’t vote well on December 7…,” he retorted, eliciting applause from the gathering.
The Chief continued that the effective management of the economy over the last three and a half years by the Akufo-Addo government, he stressed, had ensured that the pandemic, which has wreaked havoc on all economies around the world, did not bring untold hardships to the Ghanaian people.
On the Free Senior High School, the Okyenhene indicated that this policy had ensured that money, or the lack of it, had not denied any Ghanaian child access to education, adding that other policies being initiated by the President, such as 1-District-1-Dam, 1-Village-1-Dam, NABCO, the development of road infrastructure, and the Zipline drone delivery service are all bearing fruit.
