The Central Regional Police Command has arrested four macho men with offensive weapons at a popular hotel at Agona Swedru in the Central Region. Earlier reports suggested that the suspects might have been hired to attack the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison.
There was also a rumour that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the area had been picked up in connection with the arrest of the four suspects, but the police did not corroborate this claim when the security outfit was contacted by The Chronicle around 2:30pm yesterday.
The Agona West NDC also issued a statement describing the purported arrest of its parliamentary candidate as fake news, which must be disregarded.
The police, in an earlier statement, admitted, however, that they had arrested four suspects for possessing offensive weapons. The statement, which was signed by DSP Irene Serwaa Oppong, Regional Public Relations Officer, reads:
Swedru Divisional patrol team arrested and brought to the station suspects Saddick Abubakar, Gordon Kunya, Isaac Addea and Dauda Fatua with a report today, 17/10/2020, at 10: 15 pm based on intelligence gathered, that some heavily built men (macho men) whose movement looks suspicious were lodging in a hotel at Swedru.
The team proceeded to the hotel and met the suspect lodging in rooms 8 and 9. Their rooms were searched and a knife was found on Dauda Fatau, a cutlass was also found in room 8 being occupied by Isaac Addea and Fatau Dauda.
A searched was also conducted in room 9, occupied by Gordon Kunya and Saddick Abubakar, and a lighter and two packets of Rizzla were also found in the room. Two open bank cheques in the sum of GH¢5000 each were also found on Dauda Fatau and Gordon Kunya.
Meanwhile, the suspects have been detained and the exhibits retained for further action.
