An ultra-modern police station has been constructed for the people for Manso-Nkran to augment security in the area and beyond.
Funded by the Minerals Development Fund (MDF), a fund set up to provide development initiatives in mining communities, the new police station has Seven (7) offices, with two of them having washrooms.
It also has one (1) big Charge Office, one (1) Male cell with toilet and bath, one (1) Female cell with toilet and bath, one Juvenile Cell with toilet facility, exhibit room, four washrooms for clients and junior staff and one Armoury.
Addressing a colourful durbar at Manso-Nkran, the District Chief Executive, Mr Clement Opoku Gyamfi, indicated that the establishment of the police station was to ensure the safety and protection of the people in Amansie South, an area he described as beacon of hope.
The DCE recalled his early days in office where armed robbery cases, which were occurring almost on daily basis, but today due to the hard work of the police it has been brought under control.
“I remember when I took office as the District Chief Executive in 2020 there were a lot of armed robbery cases every now and then, which even led to the demise of one of our Drivers, Mr. Samuel Osei. But thanks to our security forces within the District, we have seen a reduction in this menace and I commend them for their efforts in achieving this feat.
DCE Opoku Gyamfi admonished police officers who would be manning the security installation to embrace professionalism and integrity among others, to excel in their operations.
“I would like to admonish you to uphold the highest standard of professionalism and integrity in your duties, frequent and effective engagement with the community and forge partnerships within the community and with other agencies,” he said.
Opoku Gyamfi called on the people in the district to embrace the police station as a resource centre for the community.
He told the Manso-Nkran residents that doors of the security facility are open not just as a place of law enforcement, but as a hub for engagement, support and partnership.
“Take the chance to familiarise yourselves with the services offered and the officers who will be serving our neighborhoods.
Building a safe community requires active involvement. Let’s work together to establish and maintain that trust.
“Let us reaffirm our commitment to working hand in hand with our law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious activity, communicate openly, and support initiatives that promote a safer environment for everyone.
“Let us foster strong partnerships between the police and the community, building bridges of trust and cooperation. Together, we can create a safer, more resilient community—one where safety is not just a privilege but a fundamental right for all”, he said.
On his part, the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, George Mireku Duker, told the function that the construction of the police station was a testament of responsible mining, which is going on at Manso-Nkran .
This feat, according to Duker, would be replicated in other mining areas where royalties from mining are being used for projects for development of the areas.
On changes made in the utilisation of royalties from mining areas, the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Member for Parliament, indicated that the revenue meant for mining communities were kept at the consolidated fund and the Government decided to decouple it.
According to him, this came to fore after parliament enacted a law to set up the Minerals Investment Fund (MIIF) and has become the main recipient of royalties from mining operations.
Mr. Yaw Frimpong Addo, MP for Manso Adubia, on his part indicated that security was one of the basic rights of human beings and that ever since he became an MP, he had worked hard to improve upon the security in the area.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), George Ankomah, urged the police officers to exhibit good conduct that will enable the masses to share information with them.
Nana Danso Poku II, the Chief of Manso-Nkran, hailed the government for the construction of the police station. He, however, appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, to increase the number of police officers in the district, saying they are few and could hamper security in the area.
