Adutwum To Contest NPP Prez Primary? …Donates GH¢100K, 200 Bags Of Cement To Rebuild Adum Market

The appearance of Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum, former minister for Education at Adum Blue Light in Kumasi to commiserate with the recent fire victims seems to have given credence to the speculations that he will contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary somewhere next year.

Though the educationist credited for transforming the educational sector under the Akufo-Addo government has not officially announced his intention to contest the primary, his appearance at Adum, a suburb of Kumasi, which was recently consumed by fire, according to a reliable source, is enough evidence that he would apply for the top NPP job.

According to a message posted on his face Book wall yesterday, Dr Adutwum said he donated GH¢100,000.00 and 200 bags of cement to support efforts to rebuild the place.

Dr Adutwum is the third politician from the opposition NPP to have visited the burnt market. Former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, who are all eying the NPP presidential slot have visited the place.

Dr Adutwum posted the following message on his Facebook wall;

Today, I visited Adum Blue Light to commiserate with the victims of the fire disaster, which consumed their investments on March 21, 2025.

I was saddened to see how years of struggle by the traders to build their businesses had gone down the drain as a result of the inferno.

This underscores the need for sustained fire safety education in markets and public places as a country to prevent a recurrence of such devastating disasters going forward.

It is my conviction, as a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Ashanti Region, to contribute my widow’s mite to ameliorate the impact on the businesses of the victims, who require all the needed support to get back on their feet.

I, therefore, donated an amount of GH¢100,000.00 and 200 bags of cement to support efforts to rebuild the place. I also encouraged them not to give up and to work closely with relevant authorities to pick up the pieces and further assured them of my continuous support in these difficult times.
