A suspected armed robber has been shot dead during an intelligence-led anti-robbery operation at Ejura in the Ashanti Region, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed.
According to a statement issued via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the operation was carried out by the Police Intelligence Directorate on March 18, 2026, as part of efforts to clamp down on a robbery gang that has been terrorising residents and commuters in the Ejura enclave.
Police said the deceased suspect was part of a criminal network linked to a series of highway robberies in the area. He is specifically believed to have been involved in an attack on March 14, 2026, along the Atebubu–Ejura highway, during which robbers reportedly opened fire on a moving vehicle, injuring a passenger.
Exhibits retrieved from the suspect include a single-barrelled gun, five live cartridges, a Tecno Pop 10 mobile phone, and a cash amount of GH¢200.
The police noted that the operation forms part of a broader, sustained crackdown on violent crime in the region. They assured the public that efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest other members of the gang to ensure they face justice.
Residents in the Ejura area have in recent weeks expressed concern over rising incidents of armed robbery, particularly on major highways, prompting increased security interventions by law enforcement agencies.
