The University for Development Studies (UDS) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Care International aimed at cooperating and information sharing on research and other related activities.
The two institutions as part of the five-year MoU would also exchange research information in fields of mutual interests, particularly on climate change, sustainable development, food security, livelihood security, sustainable environment and natural resource governance.
Ambassador Elkana Odembo, Country Director of CARE International, signed for Care International while Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye, Vice Chancellor of UDS, initialed for the university.
The MoU shall among others promote joint organisation of seminars, conferences, workshops and short-term continuing education programmes on topics of mutual interest.
Other areas include invitations extended to each other to participate in staff and student capacity development programmes, promoting joint proposal and engagement in research or training programmes.
Ambassador Odembo said the University’s Third Trimester Field Training Programme (TTFTP) would help CARE to receive information in its operational community to be used to improve on its projects.
He said UDS would adopt communities that satisfy the TTFTP criteria in CARE’s operational zones for the placement of students while UDS and CARE would develop appropriate themes that are in line with SDGs for the purpose of community improvement project design among others.
Ambassador Odembo said CARE would also arrange with UDS to have students posted to them for internship and this would expose the interns to field experience and allow them to put into practice the knowledge acquired.
Professor Teye assured CARE of a very fruitful partnership adding that the mandate of UDS places it a strategic position to address challenges facing the northern parts of the country.
He said the operational philosophy of UDS enjoins it to pursue pro-poor, community-centred programmes leading the provision of a world class pro-poor scholarship.
