Elim Spring Academy (ESA), a private basic school in Accra, has held its second anniversary and first graduation ceremony to promote 17 pupils from kindergarten to the fundamental basic school.
Mrs Annette Baidoo, Proprietress of the school, addressing the parents and pupils at the ceremony, said the school had a strong Christian foundation, operating the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) Curriculum.
She stressed that the school utilises the ‘School of Tomorrow Programme’ as part of the ACE Curriculum, which was a biblically based education programme geared towards meeting the learning needs of individual children.
Mrs Baidoo mentioned her joy after carefully finding teachers with passion and love for the children, adding that the ACE curriculum formed the bedrock of a sustainable future for the children of ESA.
“This curriculum is a unique programme that is self-instructional, individually prescribed mastery and godly character building based on curriculum materials.”
She noted that the ACE was built on five basic laws of learning, which are: students must be at subject levels where they can perform, students must set reasonable goals, students must be controlled and motivated, learning must be measurable and rewarded.
Mrs Baidoo explained that ESA’s vision was to teach the children with the love of God in their day to day routine, adding that every child was placed at her/his exact academic ability through periodic diagnostic testing.
“The individual uniqueness is stressed and encouraged and teachers are aptly responsible and accountable and they acquire and use critical thinking skills, computer technology. We also do encourage parental involvement in training the children.”
Mr Emmanuel A. Baidoo, Director of the School, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the school had a population of 50 students and provides academic excellence to the children.
“Some of the children cry when they are going home and others want to attend school on weekends because they find the school as another home with good facilities and dedicated teachers who show them love.”
Mr Baidoo said the celebration was to let the parents know how far their children had developed through their academic performances and exhibition of talents.
He encouraged parents to register their wards with the school because they teach every child on his or her individual strength and not together to prevent distraction.
Mr Richard C. Aryee, Chairman of Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of ESA, speaking in an interview with the GNA said he was more convinced of the good academics and character training being given to their children.
He said one thing that amazed him was the fact that the children mark their own work and made their own corrections in the school.
He disclosed that the PTA was devising fundraising mechanisms to support the school in the expansion of its building project.
